A flood-resistant garden
Creating a flood-resistant garden with attractive plantings is an excellent way of combining aesthetics and durability in the face of bad weather.

You can create a garden that’s not only flood-resistant, but full of life and beauty all year round.

There are many plants that tolerate damp or flooded soil.

These plants not only tolerate humidity, but some of them even prefer to be in soggy or temporarily flooded soil, making them ideal for flood-prone gardens.

Perennials and grasses. Marsh iris (Iris pseudacorus): Magnificent perennial that loves soggy soil and produces large yellow flowers.
Carex (Carex spp.): Moisture-tolerant grasses, ideal for borders or wet areas.
Hosta: Perennial that loves moist soil, perfect for adding a touch of greenery with its lush foliage.
Royal fern (Osmunda regalis): A large, water-loving fern that adds a wild, lush touch.

Water-resistant trees and shrubs.
Weeping willow (Salix babylonica): Ideal for very damp areas, it brings a beautiful silhouette to the garden. Black alder (Alnus glutinosa): Likes marshy soil and even helps stabilize it. Dogwood (Cornus alba): Hardy shrub that thrives in damp soil, with colorful foliage in autumn.
Aquatic flowers and plants. Cardinal lobelia (Lobelia cardinalis): A moisture-tolerant perennial that produces bright red flowers.
